A USA National Team member every year since going professional in 2003, Andy Potts is the most dominant male triathlete in the country. His proven competitiveness on the international stage, including his Ironman 70.3 World Championship title, makes him a worldly threat to any athlete that meets him on the starting line.
Potts wrapped up another successful year in 2009 with a 9th place finish at the Ford Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii. Second out of the water with a split of 47.45 for the 2.4-mile leg, he demonstrated his swim strength that traces back to his past as a USA National Team swim member and multiple NCAA All-American.
A three time Escape to Alcatraz champion, World Cup champion, and 2004 Olympic Triathlete, Potts has placed himself on top of the podium for many years. At the forefront of his accomplishments in the sport is his win in 2007 at the 70.3 Ironman World Championships. After the career benchmark, he was named Triathlon Magazine’s “Triathlete of the Year”, USAT Triathlete of the Year, and USAT Multi-Sport Athlete of the Year.
Potts was instrumental in the development of TYR’s new wetsuit series, the Hurricane. A strong advocate for making triathlon accessible for all levels of athletes, he worked with TYR designers to create a wetsuit that was affordable and still competitive for those new to the sport or on a budget. The suit, Hurricane Category 1, is marked with Pott’s signature to show his support and satisfaction.
Currently residing and training in Colorado Springs, CO., Potts lives with his wife Lisa and their son, Boston. With the simple goal of being the best triathlete in the world, he does not use words to reiterate his goals, but rather actions and results.
