Chris Plumb joined the Carmel High School swim team in 2003 and took on the pressure to maintain the impeccable record of the girl’s team. The program had 15 consecutive Indiana State Championships under its belt. Now was his turn to help coach them onto more victories. He did not disappoint.

In the 2009 high school season, the Carmel High School women’s swim team won its 23rd consecutive state championship, setting a new record. As head coach, Plumb was honored as the Indiana High School Girls Swimming & Diving State Coach of the Year. In addition to leading the girls to victory, he also headed the boy’s team that finished as the state’s runner-up.

Plumb has not only successfully lead the best high school swim team in Indiana’s entire history, but helped develop Carmel Swim Club (CSC) to a nationally-recognized program. So far in 2009, CSC was the Indiana Swimming Age Group State Champions, Speedo Championship Series runner-up, and had a girl’s squad that placed in the top five at Junior Nationals. To cap this already successful season off, the club was named the Top-Ranked Indiana Swim Club in Toyota Virtual Club Championships.

In past years at CSC, Plumb has been voted Indiana Age Group Coach of the Year, served on the Indiana Central Zone team coaching staff, and coached USA Swimming Zone Camp.

Prior to his current position on both the club and high school level, Plumb served as an assistant coach at the University of Miami for four years. During this time, he coached 12 NCAA All-Americans, as well as an Olympic silver medalist from the Netherlands. He coached 12 BIG EAST Conference champions, and guided the women’s team members to break nine school records.

Plumb’s talent and understanding of swimming at all its levels comes from a lifetime in the sport. As an Indiana University Swimming and Diving alum, he boasts six NCAA All-American honors, and an Academic All-Big Ten selection all four years with the Hoosiers.

Living in Carmel with his wife, Emily, and sons William and Nicholas, Plumb eyes the upcoming high school and club season to once again guide his swimmers to the top.
