Viewed by peers as one of the best chances for the U.S. to take a triathlon medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, 28-years-old Sarah Haskins has created a name for herself in multisport that now extends across the globe. Starting a new year of competition with TYR, she will look to defend and capture more titles while continuing to build on the respect she has earned in her five years as a professional athlete.
The St. Louis, Missouri native’s 2009 season was highlighted when she seized the Race to the Toyota Cup Series title. To win the honor and claim her first overall series victory, Haskins won both the Lifetime Fitness Triathlon in Minneapolis and the Chicago Triathlon races while taking runner-up honors in the L.A. Triathlon and Toyota U.S. Open in Dallas. The year was also capped off in draft-legal racing when she finished fourth overall at the ITU World Championship Series Grand Final in Australia.
Haskins list of accomplishments have been building since she entered the sport of triathlon as a professional in 2004. A standout swimmer and runner until the end of her collegiate career, she quickly succeeded in multisport and was accepted to the resident triathlon team at the Olympic Training Center a year after her first triathlon race.
Since becoming a USA Triathlon member, Haskins quickly climbed the ranks of professional female triathletes. In 2008, she earned her spot on the Olympic triathlon team, and went on to place 11th overall in Beijing with a time of 2:01:22.57. Other highlights in her career include a USAT Elite National Championship title, and silver medals at both the 2007 Pan American Games and the 2008 ITU World Championships.
Haskins currently resides in Colorado Springs, CO. with her husband and coach, professional triathlete Nate Kortuem.
