Haskins and Chrabot Victorious at Life Time Chicago Triathlon

Huntington Beach, CA – August 29, 2011 – TYR athletes Matt Chrabot and Sarah Haskins executed impressive races to garner first place finishes at the Life Time Chicago Triathlon.   Chrabot and Haskins finished in 1:50:21 and 2:02:05, respectively.  For Haskins, this was third consecutive victory at the Chicago Triathlon in the past three years.   Both athletes will receive valuable points in the race to the Toyota Cup, which will take place on October 2nd in Dallas, Texas.

Chrabot put up three solid splits of 22:06 on the swim, 54:53 on the Bike, and 32:36 on the run, to edge the second place male by seven seconds.  This was Chrabot’s first win this year in the 2011 Toyota Cup Series, and his three splits showed what a well-rounded competitor he is, finishing 4th on the swim, 3rd on the bike, and 3rd on the run.

Haskins was equally impressive with times of 25:29 on the swim, 1:00:38 on the bike, and 37:31 on the run.   Winning the race by over two minutes, Haskins displayed dominance on the run and bike, never losing her first place position.  Haskins is currently first in total points in the Toyota Cup Series rankings for the women.

Wellington Wins Fourth Consecutive Ironman 70.3 Timberman; Lavelle Tops San Francisco Triathlon

Huntington Beach, CA – August 22, 2011 – TYR athlete Chrissie Wellington won her fourth consecutive Ironman 70.3 Timberman with a blistering time of 4:16:33.  Proving once again that she can compete amongst the top male athletes in the sport, Wellington’s run split of 1:18:44 was nearly a minute and a half faster than all other male and female pro competitors.

Outfitted in TYR’s C5 Hurricane Wetsuit, the 3x Ironman World Champion lead the women from the start, exiting the water with at time of 27:08.  Wellington’s bike split was equally impressive, cruising to a 2:27:51 time in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit.

Wellington’s speed on the run led her to victory, crushing all other female competitors by over ten minutes with only five men finishing ahead of her.  This is Wellington’s third straight victory this year, having won Ironman 70.3 Kansas and Ironman South Africa earlier this season.

On the west coast, TYR’s Becky Lavelle topped the podium at the 2011 San Francisco Triathlon with a total time of 2:29:14.  Lavelle recorded the second best cycling split of the day with a 1:13:42.  With a 69-second lead going into the run, Lavelle posted the fourth best run time of the day with a 51:01.  Lavelle races in TYR’s Competitor Race Kit.

Jacobs Wins Ironman 70.3 Philippines; Lowe Top Finisher at Steelhead Duathlon

Huntington Beach, CA – August 15, 2011 – TYR’s Pete Jacobs successfully defended his title at Ironman 70.3 Philippines 2011.  Wearing TYR’s Torque Pro Swimskin, Jacobs was two minutes ahead of the pack after the first lap and first out of the water with a swim split of 24:17.

Finishing with a bike split of 2:05:55 and a run split of 1:18:40, Jacobs won the race with a total winning time of 3:51:43.  This was Jacobs’ second consecutive title at Ironman 70.3 Philippines.

On the women’s side, TYR’s Amanda Stevens finished second against a stacked pro field.  Stevens finished with a 24:56 swim split and was in second position out of the water.  On the bike, Stevens continued to impress with a split of 2:23:19.  Finishing with a run split of 1:37:24, Stevens recorded a total time of 4:28:34 to finish second overall.

Back in the U.S., TYR’s Tom Lowe won a modified Ironman 70.3 Steelhead in Benton, Michigan.  Due to rip-tide warnings and wind gusts of up to 25 mph on Lake Michigan, the swim was cancelled and the race became a 69.1 Duathlon.  In unrelenting wind, Lowe lead from start to finish in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit.  Lowe had the best bike split of the day with a time of 2:03:16, and finished off the race with a run split of 1:14:51.  Lowe worked hard to maintain his lead and finished with a total time of 3:19:32, 19 seconds ahead of the second place finisher.

Jeanette Ottesen Captures Gold in Shanghai; Berens and Thoman Earn Gold on U.S.A Relay Teams

Huntington Beach, CA- August 1, 2011- TYR’s JeanetteOttesen captured a Gold Medal in the women’s 100m freestyle at the 14th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China.  Outfitted in TYR’s TracerB-SeriesShortjohn, Ottesen’s time of 53.45 seconds tied for Gold, and is the first-ever World Championship Gold Medal for the Danish swimmer.  The victory also marks only the second time in history that a Danish swimmer has won a World Championship Gold Medal.

Ottesen’s tie was the second time this week a gold medal was shared by two swimmers in the same event.  TYR’s CamilleLacourt tied for Gold in the men’s 100m backstroke earlier in the Championships.

In addition, TYR’s RickyBerens helped the U.S. win the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay world title.  Berens finished the third leg of the race with a time of 1:46.51 in TYR’s TracerB-SeriesJammer.  Together, the U.S. finished with a time of 7:02:67 ahead of France and China.

The U.S. bested their previous performance of 7:03.84, set at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships.  The U.S. team has now won four straight titles in the 4x200m freestyle relay, setting a consecutive wins record which was previously held by Australia who won three from 1998 to 2003.

Also helping the U.S. win gold was TYR’s NickThoman, who swam the first leg of the men’s 4x100m medley relay.  Thoman swam his signature backstroke in TYR’s TracerB-SeriesJammer, clocking a blazing time of 53.61. Lacourt Shares Historic Gold in Shanghai; Kukors Claims Bronze

Huntington Beach, CA – July 26, 2011 – TYR athlete Camille Lacourt tied for first place in the men’s 100m backstroke at the 14th annual FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. Lacourt’s victory marks the first world title for any Frenchmen and also marks the first time in history that two swimmers from the same country have tied for a World Gold Medal. Outfitted in TYR’s Tracer B-Series Jammer, Lacourt’s blistering time of 52.75 neared his 2010 European Record of 52.11. TYR athlete Nick Thoman was also a part of this exciting final, finishing .03 seconds out of the medal hunt in 4th with a time of 53.01.

TYR athlete Ariana Kukors also enjoyed success on day two of the FINA World Championships. With a time of 2:09:12, Kukors swam to a Bronze Medal finish in the 200m Individual Medley. Tollakson Wins First Full Ironman at Lake Placid

Huntington Beach, CA – July 25, 2011 – TYR Triathlete T.J. Tollakson claimed his first full Ironman title at the 13th annual Ironman Lake Placid race, the oldest Ironman in the continental U.S.  Tollakson never trailed the front of the pack, finishing in 8:25:15, eight minutes ahead of his closest competitor.

Out of Mirror Lake with a swim split of 50:37, T.J. quickly took the lead during the 112 mile bike ride.  Tollakson’s near record-breaking bike split of 4:33:33 in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit was just ten seconds off the 2001 record set by Steve Larsen.  During the 26.2 mile run, Tollakson strengthened his lead and completed his day with a 2:56:46 run split.

Tollakson’s final race time of 8:25:15 was only two minutes off the course record set by Simon Lessing in 2004.  The victory follows a top three finish at Ironman St. George and a win at Ironman 70.3 Eagleman for Tollakson, who continues to build on a successful 2011 season.

Stellar 2011 Season Continues for Potts at Vineman 70.3

Huntington Beach, CA – July 19, 2011 – TYR sponsored Andy Potts claimed the 2011 Vineman Ironman 70.3 in Santa Rosa, California.  Continuing his 2011 dominance, Potts set a race-record 3:45:58 finish against a competitive men’s field.

Finishing with a race-best 21:38 swim in his TYR Hurricane Category 5 Wetsuit, a sixth best 2:08:44 bike, and third best 1:13:09 run, Potts topped second place finisher Paul Matthews of Australia by 29 seconds for the win.  Potts and Matthews were neck-and-neck at the 12-mile mark during the run until Potts found an extra gear and pulled away.

The victory resumes a stellar 2011 for Potts who previously won the Ironman 70.3 in California and Florida, as well as victories in the Capital of Texas, Escape from Alcatraz, and Philadelphia.

Big Weekend for Matt Grevers in L.A.

Huntington Beach, CA – July 19, 2011 – TYR’s Matt Grevers had a stellar performance in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles Invitational, finishing first in the 200m and 100m back-stroke.  In addition to his two titles, Grevers set a meet record in the Men’s 100m back-stroke.

Grever’s first win came on Friday, July 15th.  With a time of 1 minute and 59.79 seconds, Grevers took home the Men’s 200m back-stroke title. His time was just fast enough to out swim his teammate Cory Chitwood who finished second with a time of 2 minutes and .55 seconds.

On Sunday, July 17th, Grevers raced in his TYR Tracer, breaking the meet record.  In the long course meter format of the Men’s 100m back-stroke, Grevers set a blistering time of 54.15. Peter Marshall set the previous record in 2009 with a time of 54.19.

Chrissie Wellington Earns Third Straight Victory at Challenge Roth

Huntington Beach, CA- July 11, 2011- TYR’s Chrissie Wellington delivered yet another world record performance.  Earning her third straight victory at Challenge Roth, Chrissie eclipsed her own 2010 world record of 8:19:13 by exactly one minute with a reported time of 8:18:13.  Her final time was the combination of a 49:49 swim, 4:40:39 bike and a 2:44:35 run.  Outfitted in the TYR Hurricane 5 wetsuit for her swim and the TYR Competitor Race Kit for bike and run, Chrissie lead the race from start to finish finishing fifth overall among men and women.  Chrissie now turns her attention to Hawaii and the Ironman World championship.

Haskins Wins Life Time Fitness Minneapolis; Tisseyre Takes Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island

Huntington Beach, CA- July 11, 2011- TYR’s Sarah Haskins led the women in Minneapolis with a reported time of 1:59:57 at the Life Time Fitness Race to the Toyota Cup.  Wearing her TYR Carbon Race Kit, Sarah dominated the event taking first place yet again after winning the event in 2009 and 2010.  Finishing with splits of a 19:08.3 swim, 1:02:08.5 bike and a 36:35 run, her 40k bike time was the best of the day among women.

In the Ironman 70.3 Rhode Island race, TYR’s Magali Tisseyredominated all the action.  In Providence, she clinched her fourth Ironman 70.3 win in 4:27:08.  Finishing first out of the water with a time of 29:08, she continued to control the race with a 2:32:37 bike and a 1:22:47 run.  Magali crossed the finish line wearing her TYR Carbon Race Kit with the quickest run of the day, over eleven minutes ahead of the second place finisher.
