At the Charlotte Grand Prix, Mary DeScenza broke the long-standing, 8-year Meet Record in the 100m Butterfly.

She set the Meet Record in the preliminaries with a time of 59.25, then in the finals broke the meet record again as she won the event, 58.54. This time marked her Lifetime Personal Best Time in the 100m Butterfly.

“It’s my best time by about two-tenths,” Mary said. “I don’t normally go that fast in-season, but I’ve been training my butt off this year. This is just a trial run for Olympic Trials, and I’ve been getting out there and racing as much as I can.”

Mary scored Silver in the 200m Freestyle clocking in at 1:59.85. Training teammate Peter Verhoef won Gold in the 100m Butterfly. He was just off his Lifetime Personal Best Time, stopping the clock at 53.55.

Testing out the Olympic Trials’ pool at the Omaha Grand Prix, Eric Shanteau won the 200m Breaststroke in 2:12.18. Katie Carroll and Sergiy Fesenko both captured a Bronze in the women’s and men’s 400m Freestyle (4:13.31 and 3:50.28, respectively).

At the Texas Circuit swim competition in Austin, breaststroker Elizabeth Tinnon won the 200m Breaststroke in 2:28.06.

It’s a fast paced weekend as Americans jump into their last competitions before the much-anticipated Olympic Trials. TYR swimmers are competing at the Omaha Grand Prix, Charlotte Grand Prix, Janet Evans Invitational and Texas Circuit.

Fran Crippen earned the U.S. National title at the 2008 U.S. Open Water National Championship in Ft. Myers, Florida. More than 60 competitors came out for the race.

Pan American Games Gold Medalist Fran won the men’s event in a time of 55 minutes and 54.5 seconds.

“Coming into the finish on the final stretch, we were working against the wind and going against the current, so that was tough,” said Fran.

“It was good to come and get a win,” says the 2008 U.S. National Champion.
