After an already tremendous year, including a smashed Ironman course record, and a record-breaking world championship performance, TYR-sponsored Chrissie Wellington was named the 2009 Sunday Times “Sportswoman of the Year” on Tuesday, November 3rd at a ceremony in south-east London.
Triathlete Magazine, the voice of triathlon worldwide, previewed TYR’s Hurricane Wetsuit series in the “Showcase” section of it’s December 2009 issue, naming the suit as a “Best of Show” for the 2010 season.
Debuting the Hurricane at Interbike in September, TYR got praises from the magazine’s tech guru Brad Culp for the company’s efforts in developing its first line of wetsuits.
In a recent article titled “Pushing Past the Pain of Exertion,” The New York Times took a look at how athletes use psychology to overcome pain during long distance races. The nation’s third largest newspaper spoke with three-time Ironman world champion Chrissie Wellington about how she endures a grueling nine hour Ironman race.
While the rest of the country enjoyed an extra hour of sleep on Sunday, November 1st, TYR-sponsored triathlete Desiree Ficker and swimmer Fran Crippen lined up with 43,739 other runners for the start of the ING New York City Marathon in New York, NY. Ficker, a past runner-up at the Ironman World Championships, finished as the 10th women overall (2:39:30), while Crippen completed his second consecutive race with a personal best time of 2:58:06.
2009 Vineman 70.3 Ironman champion Pip Taylor is featured on the cover of December’s Triathlete Magazine, the world’s largest triathlon publication. She is photographed wearing one of the latest offerings in the 2010 Performance Swim Collection, the Double Binding Reversible Diamondback Workout Bikini, which offers swimmers two swimsuit styles in one.
