Potts and Haskins Take First at CapTex Triathlon

Huntington Beach, CA – May 31, 2011 – TYR triathletes Andy Potts and Sarah Haskins claimed the Men’s and Women’s titles at the CapTech Triathlon held in Austin, Texas.  This was the second event in the Race to the Toyota Cup, a seven-triathlon national series that began last month in Miami, Florida.  The course consisted of a 1.5K swim, a 40K bike distance, and ends with a 10K run.

Outfitted in TYR’s Torque Pro Swimskin, Andy Potts emerged from the water first with a time of 18:02 and headed into transition with a large lead.  Most of the top male competitors swam off course due to errant direction from a volunteer, which gave Potts an even greater advantage.  However, it was still a close race heading out of T2, where Potts encountered some misdirection of his own and had to backtrack before beginning the run.

Running fiercely to make up for lost time, Potts was able to finish the run 18 seconds ahead of the second place male finisher.  With a final time of 1:52:02, Potts was pleased to add another victory to his impressive 2011 season.  Potts’ recent wins include top finishes at Ironman 70.3 Florida and Ironman 70.3 California.

On the women’s side, Sarah Haskins put together a strong race to claim her second title in the Toyota Cup race series.  Haskins took the lead in the bike leg with the fastest female bike split of the day (1:02:47) and never looked back.  With a 36:12 run leg, Sarah finished a comfortable three and a half minutes ahead of her closest competitor with a final time of 1:59:35.  Fellow TYR triathlete Becky Lavelle finished in third with an impressive 2:04:26.
