Andy Potts Beats the Field and the Weather in St. Croix

Huntington Beach, CA – May 7, 2012 – TYR athlete Andy Potts conquered St. Croix, with time to spare, in arguably the worst weather conditions in race history. The St. Croix Ironman 70.3 was held on Sunday, May 6^th, 2012 in the U.S Virgin Islands. With roots back to the 1988 America’s Paradise Triathlon, St. Croix is one of the oldest races in the series.

For 2012, paradise was lost as athletes had to not only contend with the usual heat, humidity and hills of St. Croix, plenty of rain was present, leaving huge puddles with intermittent rain showers throughout the race for Potts.

Known as one of the greatest swimmers in all of triathlon, the former Olympian Potts was first out of the water with a Swim split of 24:29. Finishing out the race with a Bike split of 2:26:13 and a Run split of 1:12:50, Potts won the race in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit with a final time of 4:03:31. Potts finished the race by almost a full two minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

Sarah Haskins Defends Title in Miami

Huntington Beach, CA – April 3, 2011 – TYR athlete Sarah Haskins took first place at the Nautica South Beach Triathlon. The Nautica South Beach Triathlon was the first event in the 2012 Race To The Toyota Cup series.

Haskins started her day with a race best 22:05 swim, then had a quite fast 58:35 bike, before leaving the competition in the dust with a race best 36:47 run. Haskins’ first place finish of 2:00:13 bested the second place finisher by 2:45, routing the competition. The race was Haskins’ 21^st career win. Haskins races in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit.

Potts and Cunningham Finish 1,2 in Oceanside

Huntington Beach, CA – April 3, 2011 – TYR athletes Andy Potts and Richie Cunningham finished in first and second place respectively at the Ironman 70.3 California. It was Potts’ fourth win in Oceanside. Ironman 70.3 California is a special race for Potts. It was the setting for his first taste competing at a WTC event and introduced him to Ironman and 70.3 racing.

Potts seemed in control all day as he led key Australian challenger and fellow TYR sponsored athlete Cunningham from start to finish. With a race-best swim of 22:48, a bike of 2:13:08 and a run of 1:14:34, Potts took the men’s title with a first place finish in 3:54:03. Potts bested second place finisher Richie Cunningham by 68-seconds. Andy Potts races in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit. Both Potts and Cunningham swim in the TYR Hurricane Freak of Nature wetsuit.

Thoman and Kukors Race Indy

Huntington Beach, CA – April 3, 2011 – TYR athlete’s Nick Thoman and Ariana Kukors both swam strong at the 2012 USA Swimming Grand Prix in Indianapolis. Gearing up for Olympic Trials this summer in Omaha, both athletes were in fine form.

In the Men’s 100 Back, Nick Thoman raced to victory in the event with a 53.85, just shy of his eighth-ranked season best of 53.78 from earlier this month. In the Women’s 200 IM, Ariana Kukors placed second in 2:10.76. The performance vaulted Kukors’ ranking to sixth in the world. Thoman was racing in the new TYR AP12 Compression Speed Short and Kukors raced in TYR’s Tracer B-Series.

Craig “Crowie” Alexander Wins Again

March 26, 2012 –Huntington Beach, CA – Hometown favorite Craig Alexander did not disappoint local triathlon fans.

At the inaugural Asia-Pacific Championship in Melbourne, Australia, Alexander finished his first-ever sub-8:00 Ironman to win the event.

Alexander’s swim got off to a great start in his TYR Hurricane Freak of Nature wetsuit. Finishing with a swim, bike, run split of 00:50:33, 04:24:43, and 02:38:46, Alexander won the event with a final time of 07:57:44, beating the field by more than two minutes.

Lacourt Qualifies For French Olympic Team, Dominates Men’s 100m Backstroke

March 20, 2012 – Huntington Beach, CA - Camille Lacourt cruised to his first Olympic bid with a winning time of 52.75 in the men’s 100m backstroke in Dunkerque, France today. With his time, Lacourt jumped to the top of the world rankings in the 100m backstroke. Lacourt’s time bested the 53.16 posted by Liam Tancock at the British Trials earlier this month. It also came within a second of his textile best time of 52.11, that ranks second only to Aaron Peirsol’s world record of 51.94.

TYR Swimmers Enjoy Success Early in Race Season

Huntington Beach, CA – January 26, 2012 – Amanda Weir swam to a 54:14 victory in the 100m freestyle at the Austin Grand Prix on January 13th, the first event of USA Swimming’s Grand Prix Series. Weir, a member of SwimAtlanta, outswam her closest competitor by .32 seconds to claim gold in her first race of the season. Ricky Berens won a silver medal in the men’s 100m freestyle with a time of 49:13, just .16 seconds back from the leader.

On day two, TYR had three athletes top the podium. Berens won gold in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:47:92, Matt Grevers won Gold in the 200m Backstroke with a time of 1:57:76, and Amanda Weir won her second Gold Medal in the 50m freestyle with a time of 25:23.

Over in Europe, TYR’s Camille Lacourt enjoyed success at the Nancy Invitational in France. Lacourt swam to 53:59 victory in the 100m backstroke, and also took the top time in the world in the 50m backstroke with a 25:05.
