TYR’s Potts Wins First Ironman at Coeur d’Alene, Tisseyre Victorious at Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs

TYR triathletes Andy Potts and Magali Tisseyre celebrated wins on Sunday, June 27th. Potts’ finish at Ironman Coeur d’Alene marked the first full Ironman-distance win for the 70.3 World Champion. Tisseyre’s performance at Ironman 70.3 Buffalo Springs was her second 70.3 win of the 2010 season.

Coeur d’Alene started off for TYR’s John Flanagan and Potts with a 1-2 exit out of the water. Both racing in the TYR Hurricane Category 5 wetsuit, Flanagan split 45:58 and Potts followed close behind in 46:28. The next competitor was another six minutes back. Potts made up the deficit quickly on the bike and held on to his lead headed into T2. With an impressive 2:42:48 marathon split, he crossed the finish line in 8:24:40.

Tisseyre relied on the same back-end speed she used to win Mooseman 70.3 on June 6th to finish first in 4:23:21. Fifth out of the water in TYR’s Sayonara swimskin and second off the bike, her 1:27:38 half marathon split positioned her at the front to hit the finish line first with a one minute, 36-second margin of victory.

Wellington Wins Big in Kansas, Tisseyre Victorious at Mooseman

Huntington Beach, Calif. – June 6, 2010 – TYR’s Chrissie Wellington celebrated her first victory of the 2010 season at the Ironman 70.3 Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. The 3-time Ironman World Champion entered T2 with a sizeable lead after a blazing 2:21:15 bike leg. She went on to prove her early dominance in the 2010, posting the fastest run split in a 70.3 race this season (1:15:12). Her overall time of 4:07:49 was more than 15 minutes ahead of the next female professional.

TYR’s Andy Potts had a strong performance on the men’s side in Kansas – coming out of the water first in 23:32 wearing the TYR Sayonara Swimskin. He finished second overall in 3:44:31.

Magali Tisseyre outperformed the professional field at Mooseman 70.3 in Newfound Lake, New Hampshire on Sunday, clocking in at 4:30:46. The women’s race was highlighted by Tisseyre’s 2:37:40 bike split that positioned the 29-year-old for victory.

TYR Triathletes Perform in Hurricane at Wildflower and Alcatraz

Huntington Beach, Calif. – May 3, 2010 – TYR triathletes competed and excelled at the 2010 Avia Wildflower Triathlon Saturday, May 1st, and at the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon on Sunday, May 2nd. All athletes wore TYR’s Hurricane wetsuit.

Julie Dibens outshined her competitors at the Wildflower race in Bradley, Calif. She immediately took the lead on the swim leg in the Hurricane, exiting the water with a 1:45 advantage. Holding onto her lead through the bike, she split 1:28:28 on the 13.1-mile run to solidify her lead and cross the finish line in 4:27:53. The time set a new course record standard by 3:15.

At the start of the 2010 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in the cold, chopping waters of San Francisco were 1,800 triathletes – including TYR’s Andy Potts and Jenna Shoemaker. Potts raced aside the top male professionals during the entire course to come out third in a time of 2:02:02. Shoemaker, who had the fastest 18-mile bike leg on the women’s side (51:56), finished second overall in 2:14:47.

TYR’s Potts and Stevens Lead Swim at Ironman 70.3 Texas

TYR athletes Andy Potts and Amanda Stevens had the fastest swim splits of the morning at the 2010 Ironman 70.3 Texas race in Galveston, Texas on Sunday, April 25th. Both athletes wore the TYR Sayonara Swimskin as the exited the water leading their fields during the 1.2-mile swim. Potts split 25:24 to finish 1:20 ahead of the next competitor entering into the bike leg. Stevens clocked a 27:48 to give herself a 2:03 lead on the women’s field headed into T1.

Potts finished the race fourth (3:52:01), while Stevens came in second with a time of 4:18:26.

Huntington Beach, Calif. – January 29, 2010 – TYR continues to expand its elite roster of world-class athletes with the signing of triathlon “King of Swim” John Flanagan. The Hawaii native competed in the company’s Sayonara swimskin when leading out of the water at the 2009 Ironman World Championships. He will continue to race in TYR’s line of swimskins, apparel, and accessories, as well as the newest addition to the Triathlon line, the Hurricane wetsuit.

Flanagan proved his swimming strength at many national and international triathlon races in the past year. In addition to his 47:42 split at the world championships during the 2.4-mile swim leg, he set the swim course record at the 2009 Ironman Louisville race, averaging roughly 1:10 per 100 meters to clock in at 44:45. His success is rooted in over a decade of competitive swimming including a 2001 national title, an NCAA team title for Auburn University’s Men’s Swimming and Diving team, and four years as a Team USA swim member.

“I use TYR products everyday for either training or racing,” said Flanagan. “The Sayonara swimskin is the fastest suit I have ever swam in and helps me get out to a good start in my races. I also look forward to competing in cold water races this year so I can use the new Hurricane wetsuit!”

Triathlete Magazine Reviews Tracer Sayonara Swimskin

Triathlete magazine features a two-page editorial review of the Tracer Sayonara Swimskin by senior editor Jay Prasuhn. In the November issue, the editor tested the elite swimskin technology during the 2009 Solana Beach Triathlon in San Diego County.

Potts, Wellington Repeat Victory at Timberman

With the heat and humidity beating down on the field Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Gilford, NH, TYR-sponsored Andy Potts and Chrissie Wellington retained their championship titles at Ironman 70.3 Timberman, while rising star Magali Tisseyre finished in a strong third.

The race was off after a delayed start with the professional field breaking the calm of Lake Winnipesaukee’s fresh water. Potts was first out of the 1.2 mile swim course wearing the Tracer Sayonara, and mounting his bike held a slight lead over John Kenny.

“I pushed hard from the start on the swim I wanted to create an early separation and I was able to do that,” said Potts. “I swam in the Sayonara and was really happy with it. The suit is more about swimming than it is about how high you sit in the water.”

On the women’s side of the swim, Dede Griesbauer came out on top of field in the as expected, with Wellington and Tisseyre close behind.

The 56-mile scenic bike route entailed challenging hills along the loop, proving to be advantageous for strong cyclists to regain lost ground. So was the case for Bjorn Andersson who passed Potts and held a lead going into the run.

For Wellington, the bike portion proved her dominance over the field- splitting 2:19:59 to pass Griesbauer. Her time not only bested the second women on the course by five minutes, but fell amongst the top 10 men’s bike splits. Tisseyre positioned herself third entering the run, with Catriona Morrison just ahead.

“I hopped onto the bike feeling good,” said Wellington on her impressive bike. “The women’s pro field was really strong and I knew I had to post a really fast bike split to hold off the charge of some of the faster runners. I really attacked the bike, rode the hills as hard as I could and made sure I kept my concentration throughout.”

Entering the final leg of the race with the sun showing no mercy on the competitors, Potts regained his lead and never looked back. Despite not leading on the bike leg, his split still lowered his last year’s performance by three minutes, and with that he lowered his course record and finished in 3:51:19.

“Once I got on the run, there was a pace clock on me and I knew right away I had a chance to go right t or under last year’s time,” said Potts on breaking the course record. “It was a great performance and I am very happy.”

Wellington used the scenic 13.1 mile run to maintain her lead, splitting 1:24:37. With the split, she charged into the finish and was crowned a champion yet at the course in 4:15:11. Morrison finished second (4:17:07), and Tisseyre was able to finish strong at 4:23:24 to round out the podium.

Using the race as another step towards her big race at the Ironman World Championships in six weeks, Wellington feels excitement to defend yet another title at the race in Hawaii.

“I look at the good and the bad and will take a lot of confidence and lessons into Kona, she said. “I cannot wait to get to the big island and defend my title there. It won’t be easy but I really look forward to the challenge.”

Silver Sunday for Potts and Lavelle

Rain showers and thunderstorms did not stop TYR-sponsored Andy Potts and Becky Lavelle from taking control of the pro-field Sunday, July 26th to each capture silver medals at the 9th Annual Nautica New York City Triathlon in New York, New York.

Diving into the Hudson River for 1500m swim at 6:14 a.m., Potts emerged from the water with the fastest split (12:14) wearing the Tracer Sayonara, placing himself ahead of three-time Life Time Series Toyota cup winner Greg Bennett.

With a 59:27 bike split, Potts, who came from a 25 second deficit in his Life Time Fitness Minneapolis triathlon two weeks ago continued to battle back the competitive field leading into the run. Fighting to hold off Australia’s Bennett, he was unable to capture the win, splitting a 31:11 run and finishing second with a time of 1:46:27.

Lavelle was strong throughout the entire performance, a testament to her past successes in the Life Time Series after winning it last year and her dominance in the non-drafting triathlons.

Coming out second from the water (13:36) while also wearing the new Tracer Sayonara, she mounted her bike and secured the first place spot on the 40k ride along the Manhattan’s west side highway. Despite the rain-slick roads from the morning’s storm, she clocked a 1:05:33 split.

Entering the 10k run through New York’s historic Central Park, Lavelle fought to hold off Rebecca Wassner of the USA. Her split of 36:46 did not match Wassner’s back-end speed, and she crossed the finish second to receive silver with a time of 2:00:17.

With the conclusion of the race, Potts will now gear up for the Whirlpool Ironman 70.3 Steelhead scheduled for Sunday, August 1st. Lavelle is scheduled to race Lake Stevens 70.3 August 16th.

Andy Potts Kicks Off Season at Miami International Triathlon

On March 15th, Andy Potts raced in his first triathlon of the year securing second place at the Miami International Triathlon. In a close race to the finish, 70.3 world champion Potts completed the Olympic distance course in 1:47:24, just two seconds behind the leader. He wore the latest Tracer Triathlon technology for the 1.5Km swim, 40Km bike and 10Km run in Miami.

Next Potts will compete on April 5th at the Ironman 70.3 California in Oceanside.
