TYR Signs Two-Time Olympian Megan Jendrick

Huntington Beach, Calif. – May 13, 2010 – TYR signs Megan Jendrick, one of USA Swimming’s most decorated female breaststrokers, to endorse and wear the TYR swim collection of swimsuits, apparel, and accessories. She will compete in the new Tracer High-Performance Series of technical suits in her quest for a spot on the 2012 U.S. Olympic team.

On signing with TYR, Jendrick shared the following:

“It’s wonderful to be a part of the TYR family. The level of support and care they place on their athletes is unprecedented. I have been involved in professional swimming for over 15 years and TYR’s suits are without a doubt the best I’ve ever worn. I feel more confident than ever now going into competition wearing TYR.

I’ve been with KING Aquatic Club for over five years now and I’ve had a chance to see the wonderful support they have always received from TYR. My coach, Sean Hutchison, and a great friend of mine, Ariana Kukors, are both with TYR and when I finally had the opportunity to join the team, I jumped at it. I’m very excited about my partnership with TYR!”

Jendrick had her first international breakthrough at the 2000 Olympic Games as the youngest medalist on the U.S. swim team. Competing under her maiden name of Megan Quann, she won gold in the 100m breaststroke and was a member of the winning 4×100m medley relay.

“Megan is a class-act and we couldn’t be prouder to have her as a member of the TYR Family,” stated Matt Zimmer, TYR’s Team Sales and Promotions Director. “She is an outstanding member of the swim community and a role model in and out of the water.”

Since breaking onto the national and international scene, Jendrick has set 27 American records and one world record to date. She is both a ten-time USA National and U.S. Open champion. Jendrick is only the second female to break 59 seconds in the 100y breaststroke. In 2008, she added silver to her Olympic medal collection in Beijing, swimming the breaststroke leg of the women’s 4×100m medley relay.

World Record Holder Kukors Signs with TYR Through 2013

TYR is proud to announce a multi-year partnership with Ariana Kukors, the 2009 World Championship gold medalist and world record holder in the 200m Individual Medley out of Orange County, Ca.

“I am very excited. Wearing TYR when I made my first national team six years ago, I am proud to be part of the family. I chose TYR because of their long heritage in swimming and I enjoy the people behind the brand,” said two-time world record holder Kukors.

Recently leaving longtime club team KING Aquatics in Seattle, WA to follow coach Sean Hutchison to an elite US Olympic committee high-performance team, Kukors will join multiple Olympians and current American and world record holders already representing TYR as the company enters its 25th year in the swim industry.

“We’ve been around Ariana for about 6 years now, since she was just a kid breaking onto the national scene,” said TYR Promotions Director Matt Zimmer. “She’s a part of our family and we couldn’t be prouder of what she’s accomplished.”

Kukors is coming off of a career-high this past summer at the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy representing Team USA. Swimming the 200m individual medley, she shattered the previous world record in a blazing 2:06.15 to earn the respect of the swimming community as one of the sport’s most versatile and talented female athletes. Also a member of the U.S. 4×200m freestyle relay, she aided in the team’s silver medal performance.

Prior to committing solely to training under Hutchison, Kukors spent a year at the University of Washington during the 2007-08 season where she became an NCAA All-American, placing 2nd in the 200y individual medley, 3rd in the 400y individual medley, and 4th in the 200y breaststroke at the 2008 NCAA Championships. She broke six of the university’s individual records in one year.

In addition to focusing on her training, school and recent move to southern California, Kukors looks to start her own foundation to help support the children of mothers who’ve had cancer. Personally connected to the cause after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, she is looking to get involved in her charitable journey-already reaching out to the CHOC foundation.

“She’s a world champion, so she’s at the top of the list in the water, but we’re going to help her work on the missions she has outside of the pool,” said Zimmer. “Her commitment to giving is something we are especially impressed by.”

Grevers Advances to Finals of 100m Backstroke

After clocking a lifetime best 52.82 in the 100m backstroke Monday, July 27th at the 2009 FINA World Championship, TYR-Sponsored Matt Grevers will advance to the championship final heat scheduled to compete tomorrow evening.

Coming off a gold-medal victory as a member of the men’s 4×100m freestyle relay the night before, Grevers had a slower start in the mornings preliminary round, swimming a 54:04. The time placed him 16th entering the semi-finals during this evening’s competition. With the performance, he had much to prove to make it into the top eight. Splitting a 25.84 in the first 50m, he battled the field to touch the wall 4th in his heat. He jumped 11 spots from the morning’s race to finish fifth 5th overall. The next race will be for a spot on the podium.

“I’m going to win this race,” Grevers simply stated after dropping considerable time from one session to the next. As the only U.S. swimmer advancing to the finals, he will look to represent the stars and stripes amongst the competitive finalists.

On the women’s side, U.S. head women’s coach and TYR’s own Sean Hutchison celebrated as his KING Aquatics swimmer rewrote the women’s world record in the 200m Individual Medley with an incredible 2:06.15. Before the start of the championships, the previous world record was over two seconds slower at a 2:08.45. The race was the highlight of the night, speaking to the talent that Hutchison is guiding on team USA.

“Sean continues to show why he is not only THE coach of the future, but the coach of NOW,” said TYR’s Promotions Director Matt Zimmer. “I am continuously taken back by the accomplishments he just tutored.”
