The 2009 Ironman World Championships were owned by the reigning champion Chrissie Wellington, who secured her third consecutive title with a new course record of 8:54:03, erasing the previous mark set 17 years ago Saturday, October 10th in Kona, Hawaii.
“I never thought that I would come here and break the record,” said Wellington immediately after finishing the race. “This was definitely the hardest Ironman I have ever done. I had to dig deep. I am so proud of what I achieved today. Thank you so much, and I hope I can continue to be a champion you can always be proud of.”

In another triathlon-filled weekend in the U.S., TYR’s Becky Lavelle rounded out the podium with a third place finish at Sunday, August 30th’s Life Time Fitness Chicago triathlon, while John Flanagan set a new swim course record at the Ford Ironman Lousiville triathlon in the Tracer Sayonara the same day.

With the heat and humidity beating down on the field Sunday, August 23, 2009 in Gilford, NH, TYR-sponsored Andy Potts and Chrissie Wellington retained their championship titles at Ironman 70.3 Timberman, while rising star Magali Tisseyre finished in a strong third.

Pip Taylor celebrated with her 3L bottle Chardonnay trophy Sunday, July 19 after winning the women’s pro race at the Vineman 70.3 Ironman in Sonoma County, CA. With a comfortable lead headed to the finish line, Taylor fought off a painful calf cramp to clinch the victory at her first appearance on the course.
