Becky Lavelle Prevails as USA Long Course National Champion
The Wildflower Triathlon drew 8,000 triathletes to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. The central California multi-sport competition welcomed three distance events: Long Course, Mountain Bike and Olympic.
Becky Lavelle had unfinished business with the Wildflower Triathlon as she
was runner up for three consecutive years (‘01,’02,‘03). The
waters were choppy for her 1.2 mile swim (25:29), but she hit the bike for a
strong 56 mile ride (2:37:13). The rolling hills tracing Lake San Antonio flurried
with competitors, but Becky held them off to finish the 13.1 mile run in 1:30:49.
She led the pack to the very last mile as she crossed the finish line to savor
the win. A win naming her the 2007 USA Triathlon Long Course Champion. With
numerous titles under her belt, Becky is known as the Queen of Tri-California
races.
Becky reacts to her victory, “This was a big win for me… not only
has it eluded me for several years, but it’s the only Tri-Cal race I had
yet to win, and I was crowned USA Long Course National Champion.”
Look out for Becky at the USA Triathlon Short Course National Championship
on May 20th.
