Mary DeScenza Receives Grand Prix High Point Award
The Grand Prix Series launched its 2007-2008 season with this weekend’s Minnesota Grand Prix.
Mary DeScenza is recognized as the meet’s Female High Point Award winner. With ease, she captured three Gold medals, one Silver and one Bronze medal.
Mary set a new Grand Prix meet record while earning a Gold medal in the 100y Backstroke with a clock stopping time of 54.24. In her premiere event, the 200y Butterfly, she touched the wall nearly two seconds ahead of her competitors. Her winning time was 1:56.43. In the 200y Backstroke, the Georgia Bulldog took the top podium spot in 1:57.29. A Bronze medal in the 200y Free (1:48.85) and a Silver in the 100y Butterfly (53.37) contributed to Mary’s honorable High Point award.
Peter Marshall set a Grand Prix meet record in the 100y Backstroke. His fast 46.22 won him a Gold medal. This versatile swimmer also took Silver medals in 200y Backstroke and 100y Butterfly.
Setting another Grand Prix meet record in the Tracer Light technology is Mike Alexandrov from Northwestern. Mike swept the 100y Breast (53.41). This accomplished swimmer holds both the American and US Open records in this short course breaststroke event.
TYR’s newest swimmer, Micha Burden took to the pool lanes for the 1650y Freestyle where she grabbed a Silver medal in 16:22.47.
