FINA World Cup Underway in Full Speed

The seven stop 2007 FINA World Cup series draws to end with competitions in Durban, Singapore, Sydney, Moscow, Stockholm and Berlin. There is only one more FINA World Cup event remaining in Belo Horizonte, Brazil on November 23-25.

Throughout the last month, TYR athletes have traveled around the world for these fierce competitions.

Martina Moravcova, the acclaimed 3-Time FINA World Cup series champion is back defending her title. Martina pulled in a Gold medal at the 2007 FINA World Cup in Moscow in the 100m Butterfly. Martina improved her time from prelims to finals by nearly a second to clock in at 58.26. At the 2007 FINA World Cup in Singapore, the Slovakian captured two Silvers in the 100m Freestyle & 100m IM and a Bronze in the 100m Butterfly.

Robert Margalis swam strong at the 2007 FINA World Cup in Stockholm. The American Record holder took two Silver medals in his premiere events, the 1500m Freestyle and 400m IM. He touched the wall at 14:10.76 and 4:10.76, respectively. Before the 2007 FINA World Cup, Robert captured a Gold medal at the Finnish Open Grand Prix in the 400m Freestyle.

At the 2007 FINA World Cup in Berlin, World Champion Leila Vaziri sprinted with high velocity in the backstroke. She took home two Bronze medals in the 50m Backstroke (27.49) and 100m Backstroke (59.16). In both events, she was the top American finisher.

American backstroker Hongzhe Sun challenged the world’s elite in Singapore and Berlin. At the 2007 FINA World Cup in Singapore, Hongzhe stood proud with a Silver medal in the 100m Backstroke, 52.34 and Bronze medal in the 200m Backstroke, 1:53.61. Hongzhe is a former Stanford swimmer and 6-Time NCAA All-American.

The next major swim meet will be the US National Championship in Atlanta, Georgia starting November 29th.
