European Championship… 2 Gold, 2 Silver, 1 Bronze
The 2008 European Championship began this week with great performances from our TYR athletes. After three days of competition, TYR athletes garnered 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 1 Bronze medal.
Amaury Leveaux of France, secured a Silver medal in the 200m Freestyle. Amaury led the race with fast splits and was out touched by a mere .4. He stopped the clock at 1:46.99.
2004 Olympic Gold Medalist Camelia Potec won Bronze in the 800m Freestyle in a time of 8:25.28. Her time set a new Romanian National Record and her Lifetime Personal Best. She continues to prove she is a top distance contender as she competes in her third Olympic Games for Romania.
The Russian Diving Federation remains a dominant force in the sport of diving. Julia Pakhalina and Anastasia Pozdnyakova of the Russian Federation garnered a Gold medal in the Women’s 3m Synchronized Diving. Julia and Anastasia captured the victory by more than 20 points to finish with a score of 327.57. During the five dive finals, the Russian divers scored a near perfect score of 9.5 by six different judges. The Russian divers wore the TYR Torch Maxback.
The Swedish Diving Federation took a top podium finish from Anna Lindberg. Her grace and consistency impressed judges as she finished 20 points ahead of competitors, 293.85. The Swedish diver is a 3-Time Olympian. She stood proud on the podium with the TYR Alliance Warmups.
2-Time Olympian Joona Puhakka of Finland won a Silver medal in the 1m Springboard competition. Joona performed five dives scoring a total of 432.80. His highest award was his challenging Reverse 2.5 Somersaults Tuck, a single dive earning a 9.0 score from five different judges. Joona will challenge the best European divers in the Men’s 3m Springboard on Friday.
More races are still to come with four event-filled days remaining in the 2008 European Championship in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
