Undefeated Wellington Sets Ironman Course Record

The reigning World Ironman Champion Chrissie Wellington established a New Ironman Australia Course Record as she won this weekend’s Ironman distance race. This victory adds to Chrissie’s list of undefeated Ironman races including the 2007 Ironman World Championship and Ironman Korea.

“The race was harder for me than Hawaii, I had more ups and downs, but the crowd support was fantastic and got me through,” said Chrissie.

Chrissie completed the Australia Ironman’s 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike and 26.2 mile run in 9 hours, 3 minutes and 55 seconds. She demolished the former race record by more than 10 minutes. Chrissie placed ninth overall, ahead of most of the professional male field and all female competitors.

“I had a great swim, which I’ve been working hard on.”

Watch out for Chrissie at her next competition, Ironman Germany on July 6th.

Congratulations Chrissie!
