Warkentin Earns Silver Medal at World Championship

Mark Warkentin continues swimming strong as he captured a Silver medal in the 25k at the FINA World Open Water Championship in Seville, Spain.

“I have never heard the National Anthem in my honor, but seeing the flag flying was a pretty good feeling," said Mark.

After swimming five hours, the race came down to only .5 seconds between Mark and the leader. Mark’s final time stopped the clock at 5:04:01.6.

For the 25k race, Mark wore TYR Tracer Open Water elite technology, the only performance swimsuit designed specifically for the endurance swimmer with custom compression panels and Energy Cell Pockets used to store replenishing fuel for swimmers.

Mark inks the record books as the first American in history to qualify for the Open Water Swimming event in the Olympic Games. He is the first member of the 2008 USA Olympic Swimming Team. Mark will compete in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games 10k final event on August 21.
