TYR Swimmers Receive Golden Goggle Award Nominations
Congratulations to Olympians Matt Grevers and Eric Shanteau as nominees for the 2008 Golden Goggle Awards.
Nominated for the Breakout Performance of the Year, Matt Grevers earned 2 Gold and a Silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. His incredible performance at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials placed him on the Olympic team in the 100m Backstroke. At the Olympic Trials, he set seven Lifetime Personal Best Times. In Beijing, Matt set an Olympic Games Record and garnered an Olympic Silver in the 100m Backstroke. In the relay, Matt established a World Record with teammates in the preliminary event of the 4x100m Freestyle Relay to capture a Gold medal.
Eric Shanteau receives the nomination for the 2008 Perseverance Award. He made his Olympic dream a reality at the USA Swimming Olympic Trials in the breastroke event. During the Trials, he swam five Lifetime Personal Best Times. Eric was faced with a life changing cancer diagnosis, but decided to postpone surgery until after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. He persevered to advance to the 200m Breaststroke Semi-Finals while improving his Lifetime Personal Best Time after doing so just a month prior at the Olympic Trials.
