Huntington Beach, Calif. – June 15, 2010 – TYR triathlete and World Ironman champion Chrissie Wellington has been bestowed with an MBE in the Queen’s Birthday 2010 Honours List. Chrissie has been awarded the prestigious title for her outstanding achievements in the field of Triathlon.
The 33-year-old from Suffolk, U.K. is 8-for-8 in Ironman races and currently holds the Iron distance world record.
“I am so thrilled to have been awarded an MBE,” said Chrissie. “It really is an incredible honor, and I am so proud to represent the sport of triathlon in the U.K. and around the world. Being awarded the MBE has given me an added boost as I train for my next ironman race, Challenge Roth in Germany in July where I hope to lower the world record that I set there last year”
Chrissie recently extended her sponsorship with TYR to represent the company’s triathlon and swim collections for the rest of her career and into retirement. She will also collaborate with the TYR design team to create limited edition race gear, a signature wetsuit, and lifestyle apparel products. The partnership will focus on generating awareness and support around charities Chrissie already supports.
