Chrissie Wellington Defends Ironman World Title with Win
Congratulations to Chrissie Wellington as she defended her Ironman World title. She won the grueling 2008 Kona Ironman World Championship with a time of 9 hours, 6 minutes and 23 seconds.
The race consisted of a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride and 26.2 mile run. Conditions were harsh in Kona with hot weather, gusty winds and a full roster of the world’s best triathletes. Chrissie was leading the race, when she encountered a 10-minute flat tire delay.
"I dealt with this with a smile. That's all you can do!" she said.
Even more determined than ever, Chrissie jumped back on her bike and caught up to win the race by nearly 15 minutes.
Chrissie re-wrote the history books with a new Course Record in the Marathon Run, beating a 9 year old record. Chrissie is undefeated in Ironman competitions, an incredible accomplishment. Out of the 5 Ironman races she’s entered, she won 5 races!
