December 3, 2012 – Huntington Beach, CA – TYR athlete and 4x Ironman World Champion
Chrissie Wellington announced on her website (chrissiewellington.org) today that she will retire from Ironman triathlon racing. Wellington stated that she will continue to act as an ambassador for a number of her sponsors, which will include TYR.
On her website Wellington wrote, “My passion for the sport hasn’t waned, but my passion for new experiences and new challenges is what is now burning the most brightly…My future will, of course, involve sport and triathlon—but it will no longer be the axis around which my entire life revolves.”
CEO of TYR, Matt DiLorenzo, echoed Wellington’s sentiments stating, “TYR has seen amazing growth in the world of triathlon because of Chrissie’s ambassadorship. We will definitely miss watching Chrissie compete, as she is an amazing champion both on and off the course. The TYR brand looks forward to working with Chrissie in her new role to further transcend the sport of triathlon.”
TYR wishes Chrissie all the best as she embarks on this new chapter in her life. This is not the end, but merely a new beginning, and TYR is excited for what’s next with Chrissie Wellington. For more information on TYR’s athletes, and the products they race and train in, please visit
