On day two of the European Short Course Championships, Amaury Leveaux broke the World Record in the 100m freestyle SC semi-finals with a time of 45.12. Leveaux shaved off more than half of a second from the former record of 45.69.

Leveaux now holds the World Record in:

• 50m Butterfly SC (22.29) set on December 6th, 2008 at the French National Championships • 50m Freestyle SC (20.48) set on December 11th, 2008 at the European Short Course Championships • 100m Freestyle SC (45.12) set on December 12th, 2008 at the European Short Course Championships

At the Beijing Olympic Games, Leveaux earned two silver medals in the 50m freestyle and 4×100m freestyle relay. He is also the only swimmer in history to go under 22 seconds in the 50m freestyle LC and also swim under 1:47 in the 200m freestyle LC.
