Amaury Leveaux Breaks 45 Second Mark in 100m Freestyle

Amaury Leveaux lowers the World Record in the 100m freestyle SC with a time of 44.94. Leveaux is the first swimmer in history to go under 45 seconds in the event. He improved on his own global standard of 45.12 that he set the previous day during the semi-finals of the European Championship.

“I desperately wanted to break that mythical barrier of 45 seconds - and I did it!” said Leveaux.

Leveaux broke his fourth World Record in the one week. His previous World Records were achieved in the 50m butterfly SC (22.29), 50m freestyle SC (20.48) and 100m freestyle SC (45.12).

At the Beijing Olympic Games, Leveaux earned two silver medals in the 50m freestyle and 4×100m freestyle relay. He is also the only swimmer in history to go under 22 seconds in the 50m freestyle LC and also swim under 1:47 in the 200m freestyle LC.
