Fastest American Swimmer of All Time On March 5th, a swimmer led off the 200-yard freestyle relay at the 2009 Pac 10 Championships and tied the American Record he set earlier that evening in the 50-yard freestyle finals.  The record was first broken in the Tracer Rise, and then tied in the new Tracer Titan. This is the first time that two American Records were established by a single swimmer in two different technical suits,  on the same day. The American Record of 18.82 is the new standard for speed in the United States.
