Andy Potts Earns Wildflower Triathlon Long Distance Title
Andy Potts won the 2009 Wildflower Triathlon among a talented field of competitors in Monterey, California. He began the long distance race today with a 1.2-mile swim, finishing second out of water in 22 minutes and 19 seconds. Potts fell back into the pack for the 56-mile bike, but then broke away to lead the 13.1-mile run with the fastest time today by more than three minutes. He clocked in the run at 1 hour, 14 minutes and 38 seconds with an average pace of 5 minutes and 42 seconds per mile. Potts crossed the finish line in a noteworthy sub four hours (3:59:41) to claim victory in his second race this season and to become the first triathlete to ever win the St. Anthony’s Triathlon and the Wildflower Triathlon in the same year.
