Athletes & Tracer Technology Perform at Highest Level in Missouri

At the 2008 Missouri Grand Prix, Mary DeScenza and Eric Shanteau garnered top podium finishes as other elite TYR athletes abolished the record books. Mary DeScenza won the 200m Butterfly in 2:09.01. Her success continued with a Silver in the 100m Butterfly (59.08). The versatile performer swept two Bronze medals in the 200m Backstroke and 100m Backstroke in the new Tracer Rise technology. Mary’s outstanding 200m Backstroke swim set a Missouri Pool Record and Missouri Grand Prix Meet Record in 2:12.40. In the 200m Breaststroke, Eric Shanteau held nothing back as he captured Gold. He set the Missouri Pool Record and Missouri Grand Prix Meet Record in a time of 2:10.86. Eric improved his prelims time by four seconds for the win. TYR teammate Scott Usher took the Second podium spot with a strong swim by stopping the clock at 2:11.80. The Olympian also grabbed a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke with a quick wall touch at 1:01.46. Matt Grevers continued swimming at the top of his game after winning the High Point Award at Long Beach Grand Prix. Matt performed his Lifetime Personal Best Time in the 50m Freestyle of 22.28. He sprinted to Silver in the 100m Freestyle in 49.61 as the Top American Finisher. Matt also set the Missouri Pool Record and Missouri Grand Prix Meet Record in the event. Half of the finalists in the Men’s 200m Backstroke wore the TYR Tracer technology. Former Harvard swimmer David Cromwell won a Silver in the event in 1:59.01. Matt Grevers and Peter Marshall raced in third (2:00.16) and fourth place (2:03.45), respectively. At 2:04.13, Doug Van Wie swam strong for the final spot. Our athletes had terrific performances across the board. Fran Crippen set his Lifetime Personal time in the 200m Freestyle. Leila Vaziri captured a fourth place in the 100m Backstroke. David Cromwell and Peter Marshall swam fast for a third (54.40) and fourth place (55.28) in the 100m Backstroke. With a time of 4:22.14, Robert Margalis finished with a fourth place in the 200m IM.
