Huntington Beach, CA – July 2, 2012 – TYR athlete
Ricky Berens will race his first individual Olympic event in the 200 Freestyle in London. Berens was selected to replace Michael Phelps, who elected to drop the event from his swimming programme at the London Games. With a time of 1:46:56 in the 200 Free Final at the Olympic Trials, Ricky will now swim three events in London: the 400 Freestyle Relay, the 800 Freestyle Relay, and the 200m Freestyle individual event.
TYR athlete
Amanda Weir was also named to the Olympic roster as a member of the 400 Freestyle Relay team. Weir swam to a 54:41 in the 100m Freestyle Final at the Trials, just .45 seconds behind the first place finisher in the event. Already a two-time Silver Medalist at the 2004 Athens Games, Weir will look to help the team win Gold in London.
In addition to swimming the 100 Backstroke in London, TYR athlete
Matt Grevers will also be apart of the 400 Freestyle Relay team in London with fellow TYR athlete Ricky Berens. Rounding out the TYR team, will be
Nick Thoman in the 100 Backstroke, as well as
Ariana Kukors in the 200 Inidividual Medley.
Grevers, Thoman and Berens all raced in TYR’s
AP12 Speed Suit Series, while Kukors and Weir were outfitted in TYR’s
Tracer B-Series Technology. For more information on the AP12 and Tracer B, please visit
