Grevers Adds Two Golds to Medal Count in Night Three of Southern California Grand Prix

Long Beach, Calif.-January 18, 2010- Sunday night’s finals proved to be a success for TYR’s Matt Grevers, as he captured two gold medals in the finals of the Southern California Grand Prix. Winning the 200y and 50y freestyle, his gold medal count at the meet extends to four. “I am enjoying getting out and racing,” said 24-year-old Grevers. “Coming out of the 200 and having a strong 50 was a great way to end the evening.” The 200y freestyle was a close race up until the finish. Splitting 46.53 at the hundred, Grevers was only .02 ahead of second. Staying slightly ahead of the heat, he had a late surge in the back 50y to split 24.15 and solidify the win. Clocking in at 1:34.98, he dropped nearly four seconds from the morning’s preliminary races. Four events later, Grevers was back on the block for the highly anticipated 50y freestyle to determine the fastest male of the meet. The dash ended with Grevers’ touch-a 19.58 that beat second by less than .2 seconds. With his fourth win of the meet, Grevers’ night ended and focus now falls on the last night of finals, scheduled for 4 p.m. PST.
