JeanetteOttesen captured a Gold Medal in the women’s 100m freestyle at the 14
th FINA World Championships in Shanghai, China. Outfitted in TYR’s
TracerB-SeriesShortjohn, Ottesen’s time of 53.45 seconds tied for Gold, and is the first-ever World Championship Gold Medal for the Danish swimmer. The victory also marks only the second time in history that a Danish swimmer has won a World Championship Gold Medal.
Ottesen’s tie was the second time this week a gold medal was shared by two swimmers in the same event. TYR’s
CamilleLacourt tied for Gold in the men’s 100m backstroke earlier in the Championships.
In addition, TYR’s
RickyBerens helped the U.S. win the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay world title. Berens finished the third leg of the race with a time of 1:46.51 in TYR’s
TracerB-SeriesJammer. Together, the U.S. finished with a time of 7:02:67 ahead of France and China.
The U.S. bested their previous performance of 7:03.84, set at the 2010 Pan Pacific Championships. The U.S. team has now won four straight titles in the 4x200m freestyle relay, setting a consecutive wins record which was previously held by Australia who won three from 1998 to 2003.
Also helping the U.S. win gold was TYR’s
NickThoman, who swam the first leg of the men’s 4x100m medley relay. Thoman swam his signature backstroke in TYR’s
TracerB-SeriesJammer, clocking a blazing time of 53.61. The U.S. won gold, finishing with a combined time of 3:32.06 to outrace Australia by .2 seconds. The win gave the U.S. a total of 16 golds and 29 medals overall in Shanghai. Thoman currently holds the world record in the 100m short course backstroke.
