
On the second to last night of the 2009 World Championships in Rome, Italy Saturday, August 1st, TYR’s
Amaury Leveaux earned a bronze medal in the men’s 50m freestyle, while
Amanda Weir qualified for the finals of the same event on the women’s side.
Leveaux represented TYR-sponsoredFrance as he stepped on the block in lane three for the much anticipated sprint event. A silver medalist in the event at the 2008 Olympics, he found himself with a field of equally as talented sprinters including the current world record holder.
The quick dash across the length of the pool was up in the air from the dive, and Leveaux was able to claim a medal by touching the wall third in a lifetime best time of 21.25. The time was two tenths of a second faster than his performance in Beijing. France also claimed the silver place position, and a Brazil swimmer secured the win.
In the women’s semi-final heat of the 50m freestyle, weir swam in the second heat and placed third. With a time of 24.31, she enters Sunday’s final fourth overall.
The TYR-sponsored Danish federation celebrated as their swimmer captured the women’s 800m freestyle, beating out the home-crowd’s Italian swimmer for the gold.
