Huntington Beach, CA – November 29, 2010 – Less than two months after competing in Kona, Andy Potts showed he is still in top form as he took the men’s title at Ironman Cozumel. Potts’ time of 8:16:14 set a new course record, and gives Potts his second Ironman title of the year after winning Ironman Coeur d’Alene earlier this summer.
Potts was first out of the water with a 46:48 split on the swim, which gave him a 90 second lead going into the bike. Only 30 seconds separated the top five men going into the marathon run. Potts was able to establish himself as the frontrunner early in the first few miles, leaving the other male competitors unable to keep pace. With a final split of 2:52:36, Potts claimed the top spot ahead of 2
nd place finisher Michael Lovato.
On the women’s side, TYR triathlete Dr. Amanda Stevens was first out of the water in her Ironman debut. Stevens proved to be a serious contender with times of 46:48 on the swim, 5:04:37 on the bike, and 3:31:02. With an impressive total of 9:26:35, Stevens finished in 3
rd place, a remarkable feat for her first full Ironman.
Potts raced in a custom red edition of TYR’s new Carbon Collection Race Kit, which will be available to the public in Spring 2011. Both Potts and Stevens were outfitted in TYR’s Torque Swimskin Series for the swim.
