Swimmers Race on Day One of Texas Meet
Showcasing a strong field of competitors, the USA Swimming Austin Grand Prix began today at the University of Texas. Swimmers continue to compete for a $20,000 series purse on the third stop of the six city circuit.
Mary DeScenza, the current Grand Prix Series leader, earned her 17th gold medal in the overall series with a win in the 100-meter butterfly. Her time of 58.91 was the only sub 1:00 minute performance of women’s race. Later in the evening, DeScenza took third place in the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:15.12.
On the men’s side, Tucson Ford’s Adam Ritter placed third in the 200-meter individual medley in 2:03.03.
