Pip Taylor finished second to 2007 Ironman 70.3 World Champion Mirinda Carfrae in the sprint-distance Iron Girl Atlanta held at Lake Lanier, GA, Sunday with a final time of 1:15:46.
Using the new TYR Sayonara swimskin, Taylor exited the water with a 30 second advantage and then rode strongly to also be first off the bike claiming both swim and bike primes.
An error heading into T2 saw Carfrae shut down the Advantage Pip had and then attacked on the run to move away for the victory. 2006 Hawaii Ironman World Champion Michellie Jones finished third with 2007 Hawaii Ironman runner-up Sam McGlone in fourth.
“Iron Girl Triathlons are just so much fun and it is genuinely enjoyable getting out here among all the girls and racing – especially with so many girls who are new to the sport,” said Taylor. “I was happy with how I raced. You just can’t afford to make errors in sprint distance events and Mirinda put in a great run split today.”
Check out the one-hour race feature on NBC August 2nd immediately after the live coverage of World Swimming Championships in Rome.
