Tollakson Wins First Full Ironman at Lake Placid

Huntington Beach, CA – July 25, 2011 – TYR Triathlete T.J. Tollakson claimed his first full Ironman title at the 13th annual Ironman Lake Placid race, the oldest Ironman in the continental U.S.  Tollakson never trailed the front of the pack, finishing in 8:25:15, eight minutes ahead of his closest competitor. Out of Mirror Lake with a swim split of 50:37, T.J. quickly took the lead during the 112 mile bike ride.  Tollakson’s near record-breaking bike split of 4:33:33 in TYR’s Carbon Race Kit was just ten seconds off the 2001 record set by Steve Larsen.  During the 26.2 mile run, Tollakson strengthened his lead and completed his day with a 2:56:46 run split. Tollakson’s final race time of 8:25:15 was only two minutes off the course record set by Simon Lessing in 2004.  The victory follows a top three finish at Ironman St. George and a win at Ironman 70.3 Eagleman for Tollakson, who continues to build on a successful 2011 season.
