Huntington Beach, CA -- February 24, 2014 -- TYR Sport is thrilled to announce a multi-year, multi-faceted sponsorship agreement with Asphalt Green, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting individuals of all ages and backgrounds achieve health through a lifetime of sports and fitness. With dual locations in Battery Park and the Upper East Side, Asphalt Green is the leading aquatics and fitness organization in the heart of New York City. TYR will sponsor both locations, as well as many of Asphalt Green’s non-profit programs and aquatic and multi-sport teams, including the Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (AGUA) Swim Team. The AGUA Swim Team is Manhattan’s premier competitive swimming team and one of the top teams in the Northeast. It is comprised of more than 200 participants of all ages and skill levels, who hail from all five NY boroughs and northern New Jersey. AGUA’s mission is to hone each swimmer’s character traits, technical skills and level of dedication, all of which helps build strong work ethics outside of the pool and into adult life. In recent years, the AGUA program has produced U.S. Olympic medalists, Junior and Senior National Championship finalists, National Age Group and Metro LSC record holders and more. TYR also supports the “Swim for the Future Scholarship Fund,” which makes it possible for talented, dedicated kids who need financial support to swim with the AGUA competitive swim team. The fund was launched in 2001 in memory of two AGUA Masters swimmers who perished on Sept. 11. Since that time, 225 scholarships have been awarded. Lia Neal, a longtime “Swim for the Future” scholarship recipient, went on to win a Bronze medal in the 4x100 freestyle relay in the 2012 Olympics. In addition to the AGUA Swim Team, TYR will sponsor many of Asphalt Green’s other teams, including the AGUA Masters Swim Team, Youth Swimming, Water Polo, Diving, Cycling and the Asphalt Green Triathlon Club (AGTC). AGTC will be one of TYR’s only triathlon-specific sponsored clubs. Founded in 2003 with 12 members, it has grown to over 400 members, ranging from eight to 72 years old. The club provides superior educational, training and social resources for triathletes, and it benefits all athletes from beginners to Kona qualifiers. Both the Asphalt Green swim and triathlon clubs will receive the unique opportunity to test several TYR products, including, but not limited to, the TYR technical competition swimsuit line and the TYR Hurricane wetsuit line. This will be mutually beneficial, as TYR will get hands on feedback from key influencers on a regular basis in order to create even better products in the future. TYR will not just sponsor the Asphalt Green locations and teams, but also the non-profit programs. One of the largest initiatives TYR will sponsor is the “Waterproofing” program, which is responsible for teaching more than 30,000 children to swim, free-of-charge, since 1993. To raise funds for this program, Asphalt Green holds “The Big Swim Benefit” during the annual “The Big Swim” event, where about 1,000 kids come together to swim, meet Olympic and elite athletes and watch performances by divers and synchronized swimmers. TYR is now a Silver Medal Corporate Sponsor of “The Big Swim,” with the 19th annual event slated for May 3, 2014.
