TYR Swimmers Dominate Day Two of 2010 Austin Grand Prix

Austin, Texas – March 6, 2010 – TYR athletes won four out of eight events while the new Tracer High-Performance Line was present in every final on Friday, March 5, at the 2010 Austin Grand Prix. Those at the top of the podium representing TYR included Ariana Kukors, Robert Margalis, Michael Alexandrov, and Matt Grevers. World record holder Kukors kicked off the night’s finals with a win wearing the Tracer B-Series in the 400m individual medley with a time of 4:37.63. Up against two Olympians in the finals, she out split the entire field in all stroke disciplines to get to the wall less than a second ahead of the next competitor. Margalis added his second gold medal of the meet to his list as he championed the men’s 400m individual medley with a time of 4:21.14. Wearing the Tracer B-Series, he obliterated the entire field by over seven seconds. “I have been working on so many thing with my stroke with coach Hutchison,” Margalis the outcome of his race. “The focus on technique is obviously paying off, and I am pretty happy with that swim.” The night ended with two more wins by TYR competitors. Alexandrov clocked in at 1:01.46 in the 100m breaststroke against a stacked field to take his first win of the meet. Grevers followed suit by taking the 100m backstroke in record-breaking fashion wearing the Tracer C-Series. Up against a former Olympic teammate and the current short course world record holder, he finished in an impressive 53.05. The time lowered the previous pool record of 53.72. TYR’s Nick Thoman touched second in 54.34. The 2010 Austin Grand Prix will conclude Saturday, March 6th with races including the 200m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m breaststroke, 200m butterfly.
