TYR Triathletes Lead the Pack Early in 2011 Race Season

Huntington Beach, CA— March 30, 2011– TYR’s top triathletes started the 2011 season off with a bang, boasting numerous top finishes throughout the month of March.  Competing in a range of races and distances worldwide, it was exciting to see so many TYR triathletes getting off to a great start early in the season.  Julie Dibens dominated the competition at the 2011 Abu Dhabi International Triathlon.  Leading from start to finish, Dibens’ toughest competitor was the sweltering heat.  However, Mother Nature was no match as Dibens was able to repeat as champion for the second year in a row with a time of 7:14:23. Dibens was first out of the water for the women in TYR’s Torque Swimskin.

Reigning Ironman World Champion Mirinda Carfrae ran a blazing 3:01:06 marathon to finish second overall at Ironman New Zealand.  Carfrae unfortunately experienced two flat tires, which left her 22 minutes back from the leader at T2.  However, Carfrae’s final time of 9:31:33 was only three minutes off pace of first place finisher Samantha Warriner.  Carfrae wore TYR’s Category 5 Hurricane Wetsuit and Tracer Junior Racing Goggles. TYR athlete and native New Zealander Joanna Lawn finished third, right behind Carfrae, with a final time of 9:31:53. Lawn also suffered a flat tire in the bike portion, but was able to recover with an impressive marathon split of 3:10:54. Outfitted in TYR’sCarbon Female Tank and Carbon Female 6” Tri Short, Lawn remarked after the race that her Carbon gear “felt amazing – like a second skin.” Back in Puerto Rico, Canadian Magali Tisseyre had the second fastest bike split for the women in the inaugural Ironman 70.3 San Juan.  Tisseyre was able to keep pace with a tough field of competitors which included Rebeccah and Laurel Wassner, who were first and third out of the water, respectively in TYR’s Torque Pro Swimskin. Tisseyre finished the race in 4:21:36 with splits of 27:32 on the swim, 2:20:59 on the bike, and 1:28:29 on the run.  Wearing TYR’s female Carbon Race Kit in Gray/Black, Tisseyre’s impressive performance proved she will be one to watch in 2011. Finally, Olympian Sarah Haskins was the top American finisher in the opening event of the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series.  Haskins’ time of 55:53 made her the inaugural Elite Sprint National Champion and places her second overall in the 2011 USA Triathlon Elite Race Series standings and the ITU Pan American Cup standings.  Haskins chose TYR’s Carbon Female Aeroback Short John for her race-day apparel.
