TYR's Grevers Wins Double Gold on Night Two at Southern California Grand Prix

Long Beach, Calif.-January 17, 2010- TYR-sponsored Matt Grevers took home two gold medals Saturday night on the second day of competition at the 2010 Southern California Grand Prix in Long Beach, Calif. Grevers won gold in both the men’s 100y freestyle and 200y backstroke. TYR’s William Copeland came in a close second in the men’s 100y freestyle. Grevers started his gold medal performances of the night by lowering his preliminary time of 43.87 in the 100y freestyle to a 43.06, to touch out Copeland by .24 seconds. Second at the fifty with a split of 20.51, it was his back-end speed that solidified the win, splitting .22 faster than Copeland on the final fifty. “I went out tonight to race,” the 6’8” Grevers shared. “I had some great competition and I followed through on the second half into the finish and it paid off.” The 2008 Olympic silver medallist backstroker used momentum from his first win of the evening to take another gold in 200y backstroke. Dropping nearly six seconds from the morning swim to finish in 1:40.20, he successfully hit the wall .74 ahead of second.
