Amanda Weir won the 100m freestyle in 56.19 to take her second gold of the meet, while recently-signed Nick Thoman also secured a second victory in the 200m backstroke.
Weir, who currently holds the American record in the 100m freestyle, came into finals as the top seed in the event with a 57.59. Racing in the
Tracer C-Series shortjohn, she immediately took the lead at the fifty in 27.32 and successfully held on to hit the wall at 56.19.
“I went into finals with the goal of winning and going in the 55 (second) range,” Weir shared. “I got half of what I wanted tonight and once again felt great racing in the new Tracer C-Series.”
Thoman, also racing in the Tracer C-Series technology, celebrated his second win of the meet as well when he dropped over five seconds from his preliminary swim in the 200m backstroke. Leading the field by more than a second at the 100m-mark, he continued to lengthen his lead and touched at 2:00.12.
“I knew the race was over at the 100m point,” Thoman said on his strong front-end speed. “I felt great racing with the compression of the C-Series and was happy with the overall win.”
