Weir Fastest Female at 2009 Short Course National Championships

On the third and final day of the 2009 Short Course National Championships held in Federal Way, Wash. on Saturday, December 5th, Amanda Weir took the 100y freestyle finals with a time of 47:84 to defend her national title. With the conclusion of the night’s finals, TYR-Sponsored athletes captured a total of five national titles. The race came down to four Olympians vying for the gold in the sprint event-one being 2004 Olympian Weir.  At the first fifty, she hit the wall at 23.31 to tie for third and immediately took charge on the next half of the race. Coming into the final wall, it was her swift touch that solidified her win- clocking in only two one-hundredths of a second ahead of the silver medalist in 47.84. With Weir’s win, she defended her second national title of the meet- winning the 50y freestyle two evenings before in 21.90. “I came into this meet with the goal of defending my titles in both the sprints so I’m pretty happy with the outcome,” Weir exclaimed after the finals. “Also, I wanted to gear up for the Duel in the Pool in a couple of weeks and head there on a good note-ready to swim fast” Other first-place finishes for TYR athletes during the meet included Ariana Kukors in the 200y individual medley, Robert Margalis in the 400y individual medley, and Matt Grevers in the 100y butterfly.
