Weir, Team USA Breaks World Record at Duel in the Pool

Representing Team USA at the 2009 Duel in the Pool Championships in Manchester, England on Friday, December 18th, TYR swimmers Amanda Weir and Matt Grevers both took first place honors to help push the team to a 77-27 lead heading into day two. The short course meters formatted meet followed a dual-meet format pitting the E-Stars (comprised of swimmers from England, Germany, and Italy) against Team USA. TYR athletes representing the Red, White, and Blue at the meet include Weir, Grevers, Ariana Kukors, and Mary DeScenza. Amanda Weir and the other three members on the women’s 400m medley relay started off the meet for Team USA with a world record swim of 3:47.97. The performance was clutched by Weir who anchored the relay with a freestyle split of 52.55. Later in the first day of the duel, Grevers led the U.S. men to a sweep of the 200m backstroke event. Finishing in at 1:48.74, his first place finish added to the 42-10 lead the men hold entering day two.
